"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." ~Carl R. Rogers
My dear friend, Gail Babb, was the seed of my inspiration and watching her life become shortened because of cancer prompted me to move forward with a private practice. I used the initials of Gail’s name for the initials my company, Guided Balance, as a way of commemorating her continued presence in my life.
I graduated with honors from Wayne State University with my MSW and am proud to be alumni of an urban university. The multiple internships provided a wide range of experiences. I had the opportunity to work in settings such as a probation department, drug rehabilitation center, and a legislative arm of an organization. The work beyond my academic career has been in the areas of child welfare and mental health of children, adolescents and adults. I have had extensive training in Structural and Strategic Family Therapy, trauma informed practices, Person of the Therapist, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), Enneagram Studies as well as EMDR, play therapy and the use of art and spirituality in one’s healing.
